Jon Mackinder

A person's life might be considered a quest to balance the dark events that occurred to one early on—

Prior to this moment, Jon MacKinder was born into a family of an ex-USO dancer/producer mother and a university-taught engineer father.

Though the parents come from big, Midwest cities, the boy is instead sheltered in a quiet, rural town with a population of scarcely 2000 and 'educated' in a private school by the last of the nuns that still taught with sticks. He learned how to fight on that school's playgrounds where it is debatable which was more brutal — class time or recess.

His father dies of cancer when he is 14 and the girl of his high-school dreams is killed by a drunk driver when he is 15. By 16 he has left school and left home with his guitar and hitched off to Hollywood. He spends several months homeless and he performs the music he has been writing in coffee houses and bars and highway rest stops between Los Angeles and Seattle.

After settling happily for a short while in Southern California again, his new girlfriend goes insane, throwing a chair through the kitchen window, ripping out all of the telephones and smashing them on the walls, then running away into the night wearing only a thin dress. He follows her on foot for many miles until he hails a highway patrolman — the relationship ends in the blaze of a police helicopter spotlight, with 4 patrol cars, a highway patrol and one police motorcycle surrounding...

So listen now to this music conjured to dispel the shadows that haunt the would-be simple life of an otherwise ordinary boy.

One can hide within their art. Jon MacKinder has probably overdone this. As of this writing he currently plays over 20 instruments including acoustic, electric, lap steel, slide, 6 and 12 string guitars, bass, drums, percussion instruments, piano, organ and harmonica. He also produces, arranges and engineers his recordings. But he is most known for his singing and songwriting. He has composed an unbelievable number of songs (well over 1000) in a short time and composes with amazing speed and creativity. He is an accomplished performer and a multi-faceted entertainer. Come and ... see the show!

The next big show is on September 12th, 7:00 PM @ The GiG 7302 Melrose Ave., Hollywood.
